Extract from Southland Times article: Southern film-makers shoot to success in 48-hour production
Forty-eight hours of frantic writing, travelling and filming has turned into silverscreen gold for a group of Southland film-makers.
The production crew known as Rabies Babies has claimed top spot in the regional section of the V 48 Hours film competition.
Their work, titled Chatter, centres on the fictitious story of a policeman who invents the fabled chatter ring, a circular hoop with spinning and loud nuts, and his attempts to patent and market it.
The film's producer Anneke Campbell said the seven-minute film had to meet specific criteria, most unveiled just before the stopwatch started.
It needed to be based on a fad, include the line "what have you got" and end with a freeze frame.
The story, acting and the finished product won favour with judges, securing best film, direction, script, actor, use of a character and best use of the required line at an awards ceremony in Dunedin on Friday. "Once it was done we thought we had a shot but it was a great response," Ms Campbell said

Quite possibly the earliest chatter ring video in existence! These clips were taken in May/June 1996 at a Warehouse outlet in Auckland, New Zealand. The event was an impromptu competition put together by the Warehouse store manager and ourselves. The team chatter ring players for the Lonely Dog were cousins Trae & Huddles, both from Nuhaka, New Zealand, and Jeremy Rore from Auckland. Jeremy went on to be part of the official Bandai Team Jitter Ring crew. There were a variety of ring designs on display in the video, but by the time this footage was taken we had already designed and adopted the Final Edition design (as continued with Island Edge Jitter Ring launched in Maui, Hawaii in late 1996, and Japan in 1997), although I note from the Video that Trae is proudly sporting his Edition #2 (Flat Top) Wonder Ring around his neck -- Comment by Lonely Dog, 2011

Fasten your seat belts, folks! I've added another YouTube video to our Toshi017 collection...
In 1996 I said something like:
The Art of the Jitter Ring is all about making moves. In the hands of a novice, even the World Famous Jitter Ring is just plain heavy metal. But in the hands of a pro…it will cry and sing! Everything is possible!
I think Toshi has proved my point beyond all reasonable doubt! ;)
